The dangers of confiscating property

The dangers of South Africa's proposed policy of confiscating property

by Martin van Staden

South Africa ranks 84th out of 165 countries and territories included in the Economic Freedom of the World: 2021 Annual Report, published by the Free Market Foundation in conjunction with Canada's Fraser Institute.

In 2000, South Africa ranked 58th on the list of countries analysed. An important and revealing factor in South Africa's decline in the rankings is that it has been overtaken by fifteen former communist countries and has seven African countries ahead of it on the economic freedom list.

This year, the FMF's Martin van Staden had a theme chapter published in the Economic Freedom of the World report. The chapter outlines the dangers of government's proposed confiscation of property. You can read the chapter here.
