What does it mean for South Africans to be free and to possess individual liberty? And if we were to attain this freedom, would we truly be equipped to bear the weight and responsibility that comes with autonomy and independence?

Head of Policy at the Solidarity Movement, Ernst Roets, attempted to answer this question alongside Head of Policy at the FMF, Martin van Staden, at our recent 'Conceptions of Freedom' event.

FMF PRESS RELEASE

Tshwane must privatise power stations outright

The FMF welcomes the city of Tshwane's call to lease the decommissioned Rooiwal and Pretoria West power stations. However, the potential for political interference is high.

To combat this, the FMF argues that the decommissioned power stations in Tshwane should either undergo full privatisation or allow operators to secure extended (99-year) leases to prevent future interference by the state.

Such leases would enable operators with complete control, rather than just a service agreement.
