FMF NEWSLETTER 16 May 2018
EDITORIAL

Dear friend of the FMF

In this week’s feature article, Chris Hattingh explains that there is no logic behind the draft Rules for Registration of Small-Scale Embedded Generation published by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). The methods which private citizens use to generate their own electricity, be it solar panels or a generator, ought to be solely their concern, not that of the government. State electricity generation has been unreliable in South Africa; it is consequently every citizen’s right to look after their own electricity generation if they deem it necessary, free from state interference.

FEATURE article

No reason for government to be involved in personal electricity generation – CHRIS HATTINGH

The draft Rules for Registration of Small-Scale Embedded Generation published by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) state that every form of home electricity generation – including solar photo-voltaic (PV) panels and backup generators, will have to be registered with the government. Not content with the continuous waste of taxpayer money on the Apartheid-era fossil that is Eskom, the government wants to be in control of how you choose to generate power for your own household.
