The true state of disaster: Policymakers infected with inertia and the unemployed with lost hope – Temba A Nolutshungu

Unemployment is the true State of Disaster. It has risen to an historical high of 30.8% (expanded definition makes it much higher at 43%) so far during the national lockdown. It has been a national crisis for too long leaving 11.1 million South Africans unemployed.

Many possible solutions to the jobs crisis have been discussed, but, to date, none of them have focused on making job-finding and employment any easier for the jobless. Bold, creative and, in many cases, unpopular decisions must be taken immediately to solve this national catastrophe.
